Project: Byciclic peptide vaccine antigens

Organisation/Institute: École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Lausanne, Switzerland)

Supervisor: Prof. Christian Heinis

My name is Zsolt Bognár and I have graduated as a Pharmaceutical Engineer from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 2020. I wrote my master’s thesis on the topic of molecular docking, while I could be a part of an virtual screening campaign organised by the Medicinal Chemistry research group of the Research Centre for Natural Sciences in Budapest.

In addition, I have also had the opportunity to gain experience in synthetic organic chemistry at my university, and apply these skills in the pharmaceutical industry. During my bachelor studies, I have participated in a summer internship program at one of Hungary’s leading companies in pharmaceutical research, Gedeon Richter. In 2018-19, I have also been part of the Roche Internship in Medicinal Chemistry programme, during which I could contribute to Roche’s cutting-edge research for one year in Basel, Switzerland.

In addition to small molecule research, I would like to improve my skills in the field of Chemical Biology as well. Therefore, I am fortunate to have received an opportunity to join the Laboratory of Therapeutic Proteins and Peptides lead by Prof. Christian Heinis at EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland. In this team, I am investigating the potential application of peptides for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases as part of the BactiVax ITN programme.
