Project: Vaccine antigen identification against systemic infections

Organisation/Institute: Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Munich, Germany)

Supervisor: Prof. Johannes Huebner

I am Océane SADONES, there is a long time I have a scientific curiosity. I have completed a technical degree in Biotechnologies, a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc in Health Biology, specialized in Microbiology and Immunology. During these degrees, I have done two Erasmus exchanges and four internships in three different countries (France, Spain, and Italy).

The desire and the will to help medicine got me particularly interested in Health Biology. I wanted to do research on biological topics that can be applied to save lives, eradicate diseases and prevent deaths. I want to create tools for doctors, to have a contribution to the global world’s health. Microbiology and Immunology are my particular interests. What a great combination of both disciplines while working on a vaccine to prevent bacterial infections!

That is the reason why I got directly amazed by BactiVax projects. Antibiotics discovery was one of the greatest breakthroughs in science and medicine. But antibiotic resistance came, and we were disarmed. The World Health Organization estimated the number of deaths caused by drug-resistant infections could rise to 10 million every year by 2050. So far, vaccination is, in my opinion, our best choice to fight diseases. It is a field in need of new discoveries and improvements.

I am extremely proud of being part of the BactiVax project. When I have completed this amazing training, I wish to work on life-threating pathogen-caused diseases.
