BactiVax early stage researchers present at international conferences in Belfast, NI and Atlanta, GA

In-person events are back, and our early stage researchers have had a very busy month attending and presenting at international conferences. PhD students Paulina Zarodkiewicz (Queen’s University Belfast), Irene Jurado and Maite Sainz (both University College Dublin), together with BactiVax Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Siobhán McClean (UCD) took part in the Microbiology Society’s Annual Conference 2022 held in Belfast, NI (4th - 7th April).

Paulina presented a poster on identifying proteins in the core proteome of multidrug antibiotic resistant ESKAPE bacteria (Klebsiella, Acinetobacter and Enterobacter species), with the aim of developing T-cell based vaccines to fight infections caused by these dangerous pathogens. Maite’s poster focused on the identification of host-pathogen interactions for the design of effective therapeutic vaccinations against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Irene’s research also aims to tackle Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the poster she presented summarising recent findings on identifying novel PA antigens using an innovative proteomic approach.

Later in the month, Irene and Maite also presented at the Pseudomonas 22 International Biennial Conference, which was held in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) bethween the 18th - 23rd April.
